Xbox is truly the next generation gaming console. It offers everything that a new age gamer is mad about; improved graphics, sophisticated indulging games, valuable add-ons and a lot more. However to enjoy these add-ons gamers needs to know how to redeem a code on Xbox One. There are three methods to redeem a code on Xbox One. Here we will detail all three for you.
Manually Entering the Code
1.0 Login to your Xbox live account. If you don’t have an account already you can create one from the login page directly.
2.0 After successful login, navigate to Games and press A on your console to select it.
3.0 Number of options will appear; select Use a Code from the menu.
4.0 From the menu that appears choose enter the 25-character code. A virtual keyboard will appear, enter the code available with you using the virtual keyboard.
5.0 After you enter the code, a notification will pop up confirming what kind of code you entered. Select Confirm to redeem the code.
How To Redeem A Code On Xbox One Using the Kinect
- Login to your Xbox Live account through the appropriate Xbox Live account.
- Follow steps 2 and 3 as mentioned in the method above. Make sure your Kinect sensor is connected to the Xbox One console.
- When you are in Kinect sensor range and select Xbox, use a code, a QR Code scanning screen will appear automatically.
- Place the QR Code in front of the Kinect sensor, the code will be scanned in no time.
- After successful scanning a notification screen will appear notifying what kind of code you entered.
Redeeming Codes on a Computer
Sometimes you might want to consider redeeming codes through your PC instead of using console. To do so follow the steps:
- Log in to the Microsoft account visiting http://live.xbox.com/redeemtoken. Make sure you use the same email and password as you use on Xbox One console.
- In the menu choose Xbox Live and from the drop down menu choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the 25-character code in the pop up that appears.
- Log in to your console now and if the code is successfully redeemed it will be automatically applied to your account.
These are the three methods through which you can easily redeem a code on Xbox One.
Additional Information
Gamers can sometimes run into problems when they try to redeem code in their Xbox One. Here are some of the common issues reported:
“This code cannot be redeemed under your current membership type”
Some of the offers are released exclusively for Xbox Live Gold subscribers only. You can check your subscription type visiting:
- On Xbox One console- Go to Settings and then Account.
- Or on a PC login to your Microsoft account and visit Services & Subscriptions.
“This code has already been used. Please enter a code that has not been used.”
If you face this error then you can check whether the code is already in use or not. On a PC visit Services & Subscriptions and check if the code is already redeemed. On an Xbox One console you can visit Download History to know if the code is redeemed already.

When you buy a game through Origin, most of the time it will be added directly to your game library. If you need the code for any reason, there are a few ways you can find it.
Find your code in the Origin client
- Open up the Origin client.
- Go to My Game Library.
- Right-click your game.
- Click Game Properties.
A pop-up with your Product Code will appear. For some games it may say 'Product Code' while others will say 'Serial code' or 'CD key.'
Get your code via email
After you buy your game, you might get a confirmation email with your code in it.
NOTE: This is mostly for older third party games, so you might not get a code in your email. If there’s no code in your confirmation email, check your game library to see if your game is already there.
I lost my code and didn’t install through Origin! What do I do?
If you lose a Product Code for an EA game that you did not install through Origin, contact us so we can help.
When you contact us about your Product Code we may ask you for proof of purchase, so have it ready.
Log in to Origin using the EA Account you want to add your game to. This is important if you're a parent who wants to add a game to your child's account.
Redeem your Product Code in the Origin client
For PC
- Log in with the EA Account where you want to add the game.
- Click the Origin menu.
- Select Redeem Product Code...
For Mac
- Log in with the EA Account where you want to add the game.
- Go to your computer's top menu to select Games and Redeem Product Code...
Redeem your Product Code on origin.com
- Log in to the Origin store website using the EA Account where you want to add the game.
- Select Game Library.
- Click Add a Game in the top right corner. This will drop down an option to click Redeem Product Code…
Once you’re at the page to enter your code, type in your game’s Product Code. Click Next and the game should show up in your Game Library.
Redeeming other games and classic games
Some of our games cannot be redeemed directly through Origin, but you can still add them to your EA Account in other ways.
Redeem codes for The Sims 3 on The Sims 3 website to play your games and get any additional bonus content.
Some of our classic games cannot be redeemed on Origin and can only be played if you still have the game disc. Those games include but are not limited to:
- The Sims (1)
- The Sims 2
- Battlefield 1942
- Battlefield Vietnam
- Command & Conquer
- Medal of Honor
- Crysis
Redeem third party games from Ubisoft

Redeem pre-paid cards, subscription, and virtual currency codes
Redeem your EA Cash Cards on Origin or on Pogo via the Cash Card site.
Subscriptions and virtual currency codes, like for SimPoints, can be redeemed at the URL in your code instructions.
Redeem promotional codes
Promotional (promo) codes can give you discounts on your Origin purchases. Redeem your promo code during the checkout process.
If you have an eligible promo code:
- Find the game you want to buy in the Origin Store, either on origin.com or in the Origin client.
- Click the Pre-order or Buy button.
- Enter your payment information.
- Click Proceed to Review Order.
- On the Review Order page, click Enter Promo Code >.
- Enter your code and click Submit.
- Click Pay Now to complete your purchase.
Adobe
Restrictions on promo codes vary from game to game and promotion to promotion. You usually cannot use them on games less than a month old, virtual currency, subscriptions, game time cards, third-party games, or combined with any other current sale or promotion.
Download your purchased games at any time, on any computer, using the Origin client.

How does game preloading work?
Pre-loading means you can download your game before its release date. Unlock, unpack, and install the game early so you can play as soon as possible.
I got a message saying my Product Code can't be redeemed through Origin. What should I do?
Check the instructions that came with your code — they should list the URL where you should go to redeem your Product Code. Origin will send you to that URL when possible, but double check the Product Code instructions to make sure you redeem your code in the right place.
NOTE: Some codes may give you extra content when you redeem them at a specific URL. Read all instructions carefully so you don't miss out!

I redeemed a Product Code, but nothing new appeared in My Game Library. What happened?
Not all codes are full game codes and might only be redeemable for in-game content, so they won’t create a new icon in your Game Library. You can access the content from these codes when you play the game that they’re for.
Check to see if you bought the full game or other content, like downloadable content (DLC) or a subscription, for the game instead.
